Who we are

Redwood Infrastructure stands at the forefront of telecommunications infrastructure, empowering the industry’s rapid expansion and evolution from coast to coast. We build and lease telecom infrastructure to support network growth, providing co-location access and bringing connectivity to the dark zones. We are the bridge between major telecom companies and the towers we each depend on for clear signals whenever and wherever we need them.

Driven by our core principles of innovation, evolution, scalability, and sustainability, we constantly seek new ways to excel in the industry. Our nationwide network of owned towers provides strategic hosting of critical equipment, enabling our clients to refocus their investments on core technology innovation and service expansion, propelling their success and growth.

With industry experts as our leaders and the confidence and financial backing of a large Canadian private equity firm renowned for investing in businesses, we are set up for significant growth and success. We are on target to be the largest TowerCo in Canada by the Fall of 2024.

Joining us now is a chance to be part of a rapidly scaling company driven by a mission to ensure everyone can reliably connect with emergency services, family, work, and everything in between, no matter where they are in Canada. This isn't just lifestyle improvement; it is life-changing and life-saving infrastructure. It's an opportunity to contribute to the future and make history with infrastructure that will stand the test of time.

Who we need

Reporting initially to the COO and transitioning to the VP of Infrastructure, we are looking for a Manager of Civil Engineering to take on an individual contributor role. You will play a crucial role in the design, planning, and execution of telecommunications tower builds across Canada.

This is a fully remote role with travel up to 20% of the year.

Who you are

You are a civil engineer with extensive experience planning and overseeing the building of telecommunications towers and you want to be part of a startup taking ownership of hundreds of sites across the country. Or, you may have managed the work and the team on other complex infrastructure projects and you want to move into a fast-paced, rapidly growing industry.

What's in it for you

Impact. You will be part of a small company doing impressive work with big names in telecom, commercial real estate, and governments. It’s a chance to be part of the only Canadian startup in this sector where everyone is excited about our impact on the industry and on every Canadian seeking connectivity through their cell phone.

Challenges. We have plans to build up to 300 new towers within the next 12 months. You want to take on multiple complex infrastructure projects, some ready-to-go and others with a blank slate. You want to lead the design, evaluation, and planning processes, collaborating across teams.

Career development. We are small but mighty, and our size offers unlimited growth opportunities and exposure working directly with key players in the industry and the Board of Directors. You will be part of a lean company that wants to hear your ideas that prioritize not just efficiency but innovation. This is an opportunity to contribute to our foundational processes and grow with us. As part of the first wave of new hires, you will be joining Redwood Infrastructure at the startup stage; you will have a voice at the table from day one and an opportunity to demonstrate your value and expertise. It’s a chance to influence highly impactful decisions and to ultimately build and grow a team.

What you will do:

  • Lead the planning, design, and construction of telecommunications towers. You will review every iteration of the design and validate the Ready to Build plan. You will draw on your engineering background and the most up-to-date information to determine the structural enhancements and limitations, considering multiple variables, including the physical makeup of the geographic area as well as the municipal and regulatory guidelines and restrictions. You will take ownership of our build-to-suit sites, and validate 3rd party designs to our standards. You will work on new builds with our Infrastructure Planning and Real Estate teams and the customer’s engineering teams to understand the requirements and how we can meet their needs.
  • Be the off-site expert. You will provide technical guidance and support to the Chief Operating Officer and other stakeholders.  You will resolve day-to-day issues as they arise, managing subcontractors. You will be part of a team that evaluates results and plans optimizations and co-location adaptations that will enhance both the process and the structure for future builds. You will attend the standards agencies' meetings, keep up with regulations, contribute to the thought process to ensure restrictions are not cost-prohibitive and build them into our planning stages.
  • Manage multiple complex build projects. You will conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new tower locations. You will develop and maintain project documentation, including plans, schedules, and budgets. You will oversee the procurement of materials and services required for tower construction. You will ensure projects start and end within agreed-upon timelines and comply with all internal and external quality, regulatory (municipal, provincial, federal), and safety standards.
  • Collaborate. You will build relationships across internal teams, including real estate, project management, and operations, collaborating on collecting and evaluating information, focusing on feasibility and scope. You will oversee the work of external contractors to ensure they are meeting deliverables. You will act as a bridge across internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

What you bring:

  • The expertise. You have a civil engineering education and background and may have a Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation. You take a logical, solution-oriented approach to everything you do, creating structure and processes where none exists. You have a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering results on time and within budget. You are familiar with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including environmental and zoning requirements.
  • The drive. You have an entrepreneurial mindset. You thrive in the fast-paced environment of telecommunications infrastructure, performing complex, detailed work on multiple concurrent projects simultaneously. You take the initiative to ask probing questions to gain insights and confirm accuracy. You can creatively adapt solutions in anticipation of or in response to new information.
  • The leadership. You have an exceptional ability to draw on your in-depth industry knowledge and understanding of business needs to address, mitigate, and resolve issues effectively. You can coordinate and guide the work of internal and external teams, ensuring adherence to project plans and deadlines.
  • The technical skills. You are comfortable with CAD, Digital Twin, and other modern engineering and project management tools. You can quickly learn new software and systems.
  • The interpersonal skills.  You can build productive relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders, influencing without authority. You have professional written and verbal skills. You have a genuine interest and appreciation for diverse backgrounds, understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns. You can navigate conflict and provide reassurance.
